Advanced

POWERBOAT ADVANCED COURSE (ADVANCED).

Course Description

As this is a night time course, timings will be flexible for the start and finish times.

Aimed at experienced leisure boaters and those seeking to work commercially the Advanced Powerboat Course can be followed by the Advanced Powerboat Certificate of Competence Examination. The course covers areas such as night navigation, rough water handling and search patterns and it is expected that you are a competent boat handler to start with.

Course Aim: To teach boat handling, seamanship, pilotage and navigation up to the standards required to drive a planning powerboat safely by day and night in tidal coastal waters with which the candidate is familiar.

The course assumes you can handle a powerboat very well as it is about developing your skills rather than starting them. It also assumes you understand navigation to the level of Yachtmaster/Coastal Skipper Theory (although you don’t actually need the qualification). We would always suggest that we have a chat with you about your experience before you book the course to ensure that this is the best course for you.

This Course is 2 days in duration and starts at 9 or 10 am on day one and will finish about 3 – 4 hours after it gets dark. On day 2 it starts at either 9 or 10 am and typically finishes between 4 and 5 pm.

You can follow this course by taking the Advanced Powerboat Certificate of Competence examination, (Advanced CoC), which on successful completion and you have the other requirements for a commercial endorsement, allows you to work commercially on a vessel up to 24 meters in length up to 20 miles from a safe haven both day and night.
