Level 1 Award in an Introduction to Mental Health & Wellbeing.

Mental Health Awareness and Wellbeing for Seafarers – 2 days

This course is aimed at seagoing and shore-based Merchant Navy & Fishing industry personnel and those with an interest in Seafarers for example: shipowners, ship training providers, port chaplains, seafarers families, crew managers and other agents.

The aim of the course is to provide an awareness and appreciation of mental health and wellbeing in ones self and others in the context of being at sea. Stresses of being away from home, being new to a team or even crews wages, can have a huge impact on the mental health of those working at sea.

For seafarers there is no lawful requirement to have this sort of training, but the maritime labour convention of 2006 provides some guidance. This area is under review by the MCA and the Merchant Navy Training Board and this sort of training has been developed by maritime subject matter experts and the Maritime Charities Group.

A full list of support agencies and help lines will be provided as part of the training package given to students.
