Terms And Conditions

By booking a Course with Aboard Boat Coaching (ABC), you are agreeing that Aboard Boat Coaching can retain your data provided, for the purposes of course administration, contact with you, (both now and in the future) and your safety & welfare. Your data will be kept for up to 5 years and then deleted securely. Aboard Boat Coaching will not use your data for any other reasons and will not pass your data onto a third party for marketing purposes, although your data may be supplied to the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) if applicable.

By booking a Course with Aboard Boat Coaching you accept that there may be an element of risk associated with the chosen Course and that you are liable for any accident that is your fault or when not taking actions or advice from the Instructor. We have full liability Insurance in place. We are also a registered ICO business.

Booking process

On receipt of your booking we will forward to you full joining instructions. If you make an enquiry, we will contact you to discuss your specific needs. We will then send you a confirmation letter by email, clearly setting out the details of your course or the activity, dates, and the cost. If you require a receipt just let us know and one will be arranged. You should read these Terms & Conditions, tick to state you have read and understand them and then your booking can proceed onto the payment section.


Each booking is paid for in full via the web-site or we can cater for onsite bookings. Payment is strictly prior to the start of the course, or immediately if you are booking online. Bookings are only considered firm on receipt of payment in full. Payments may be made by Bank Transfer or Credit/Debit Card and we have an electronic card reader at ABC for card payments or apple pay. We can’t take payments over the telephone at present.

Cancellation by you the client

You may cancel your booking at any time. If you do this more than 28 days before the activity, your payment will be returned in full minus a small admin charge by Stripe. We will retain the total fee if you or any member of your party cancels less than 28 days before the activity start date. We will attempt to offer you further dates should this happen if we are able to find you a space on another course date. If you cancel in the summer months, it may not be possible to re-imburse you due to others that may miss out on a place when busy and your re-booking a date, costs us that place. If we can fill your cancelled space, you will receive a refund, there will be a cancellation fee of £20 for merchant finance fees and admin.

If we cancel the activity for any reason, and we are unable to accommodate you on another date, our liability will be limited only to the return of any monies already paid. For ABC to cancel would only happen however in exceptional circumstances. It’s very rare we cancel a Course, but sometimes weather can influence Courses on the water especially with very strong winds. Most waters we operate in are reasonably protected.

Changes to your booking

Should you wish to alter the date or type of activity/course from that of your original booking within the 28 day period, we will make every effort to reschedule subject to a rescheduling charge of 25% of the total activity cost. You will also be liable for any activity specific costs which we are not able to recover, such as if we have booked an Instructor. If we have booked an Instructor for example, we may have to pay them as it prevents them from accepting work elsewhere and that would be the reason for the charge.

Unforeseen Circumstances

We reserve the right to cancel/curtail your activity due to circumstances amounting to “Force Majeure” these include, but are not limited to, war, riots, government action, terrorism, fire, severe weather conditions, strike action, Pandemic and all similar events outside of our control. Where such circumstances do occur, we will not be liable to pay you a refund or offer any compensation, we will of course discuss other dates. Weather may also postpone your Course.


Aboard Boat Coaching have full Public Liability and other insurance for the activities in which we engage in. Some Instructors also carry their own personal liability Insurance in addition to being covered by us when working for us. We strongly advise all training you may book should have adequate insurance cover like ours does. Beware of the one-man band operator as they may not be adequately insured or even at all. Your own boat Insurance is not likely to cover training, so think carefully about who you use, our insurance is available for inspection.


All customer’s personal data will be treated in the strictest confidence under GDPR and under no circumstances will any details be passed onto a third party without your prior consent. Sometimes the Royal Yachting Association will be supplied with or inspect your details and you agree to this possibility by accepting theses Terms & Conditions. We retain data for 5 years unless you agree we can retain it longer.

Action Plans

Although rare, sometimes students just do not satisfy the requirements of the course in their ability to complete it, if their confidence levels fall short, or they have not enough prior experience before completing the course. It would not be right and indeed it is sometimes dangerous to issue a competence certificate in such circumstances. Should this occur then an action plan will be drawn up by the Instructor and arrangements made to get the student back to complete their action plan with us. Action plans should be regarded as Course development and not a failure, often students just take a little longer than others to be competent in the learning or skills being taught. A fee may be applicable for any development training via an action plan.
