Instructor (PBI)

POWERBOAT INSTRUCTOR (PBI).

Course Description

RYA Powerboat Instructor (PBI)

Become an RYA Powerboat Instructor which will enable you to teach Level 1, Level 2 and potentially the Safety Boat course as part of an RYA Training Centre or Yacht Club. This is a great way to share your passion for boating and your experience on the water with others.

Candidates for the instructor course must possess the following: RYA Powerboat Level 2 and an appropriate First Aid qualification. Please note not all first aid qualifications are sufficient for this course, so please check the suitability of your first aid qualification. (Acceptable first aid certificates only). Candidates must have at least five years’ experience across a range of craft or, if working full time in the marine sector, then one year’s experience is acceptable.

There is a 1/2 day pre-assessment then the duration of the course is 3 days, from 9 am to 5/6 pm. You should also allow for 1 to 2 hours, every evening for ‘homework’ during the course, as there is a lot of information. Because of this, you may find it easier to stay away from home to get the course done and be close by so travel is not a problem for you.

The ratio is 6 students to 1 RYA Powerboat Trainer and 2 boats. On day 3 of the course there will be a second Powerboat Trainer – the ‘Course Moderator’.
